Wrexham School Lockdown Today – Large Police Presence in Wrexham City Centre After Reports of Suspicious Behaviour
A significant police presence was seen in Wrexham city centre on Thursday morning following reports of suspicious behaviour.
North Wales Police confirmed that searches began shortly after 8:41 a.m. to identify and locate an individual. The person was later found near Maelor Hospital and spoken to by officers. Authorities have since confirmed that concerns were “well intentioned but unfounded.”
Assistant Chief Constable Nicholas Evans addressed the incident, saying:
“I understand the increased policing presence in the Wrexham area this morning may have been unsettling and caused alarm among the community. I would like to reassure members of the public that the individual was identified, and concerns were found to be well intentioned but unfounded. Officers will remain visible in the area today for reassurance purposes. Thank you to those who reported the incident and to the public for their patience while we dealt with the matter, which has now concluded.”
Earlier in the day, North Wales Police’s Wrexham City team described the situation as an “ongoing police incident” and deployed a heavy presence, including authorised firearms officers, as a precautionary measure.
Several local schools and nurseries, including Plas Coch School, were placed in partial lockdown while the incident unfolded. A North Wales Police spokesperson confirmed that officers are now attending these locations to inform staff and students that there is no ongoing risk to the public.
The incident has since concluded, and authorities are continuing to maintain a visible presence in the city centre to reassure the community.
