Peggy Sims Obituary, Pickaway County, OH Motorcycle Crash Death – In Loving Memory

The Pickaway County community is mourning the loss of Peggy Sims, who was killed Sunday afternoon in a violent motorcycle crash on State Route 159 near Kingston-Adelphi Road. The tragic collision occurred when a pickup truck failed to stop at a posted sign, striking the three-wheel motorcycle she was riding as a passenger and leaving the driver critically injured.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Peggy Sims was traveling southbound with her partner, Ellery Elick, on the rural two-lane highway when the pickup truck entered the intersection from Kingston-Adelphi Road. The impact hit the passenger side of the motorcycle, throwing both Sims and Elick from the vehicle. Emergency responders arrived within minutes, but despite life-saving efforts, Sims was pronounced dead at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.

Sims, a longtime Pickaway County resident, was described by family and friends as vibrant, outgoing, and full of warmth. She worked as a dental office receptionist and loved riding motorcycles with Elick. She is survived by her daughter Madison, her mother Carol, and two brothers. Her sister Brenda Sims-Taylor said, “Peggy lived for Sunday rides… and now she’s gone because someone couldn’t be bothered to stop at a stop sign.”

Elick, who suffered multiple fractures, internal injuries, and a traumatic brain injury, was airlifted to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He remains in critical but stable condition following emergency surgeries.

The pickup truck driver, whose identity has not been released, is cooperating with investigators. Authorities are examining whether failure to stop, speed, distracted driving, or other factors contributed to the crash. No citations have been issued, but charges could range from a traffic violation to aggravated vehicular homicide depending on the investigation’s findings.

This tragedy has left the Pickaway County community grieving and serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by inattentive or reckless driving on rural roads.
