Ontonagon Man, 60, Dies in US 45 Crash in Oneida County, Wisconsin

A 60-year-old man from Ontonagon, Michigan, died following a fatal crash on US Highway 45 in Oneida County, according to preliminary reports from authorities.

Emergency responders were called to the scene after reports of a serious single-vehicle crash along the highway. When crews arrived, they found the vehicle with heavy damage consistent with a high-impact roadway incident. Despite emergency efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified only as an Ontonagon man pending full confirmation and formal release of his identity by officials and notification of next of kin. The crash occurred along a stretch of U.S. Route 45, a major north–south highway that runs through rural sections of northern Wisconsin.

Investigators with local law enforcement agencies are currently working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. At this stage, officials have not confirmed whether factors such as speed, roadway conditions, wildlife crossing, driver health, or mechanical failure may have contributed. No other vehicles were reported to be involved.

The roadway was temporarily restricted while emergency crews secured the area, documented evidence, and removed the damaged vehicle. Traffic has since been restored.

Residents in both Ontonagon and nearby northern Wisconsin communities have expressed condolences as news of the fatal crash spreads. Authorities have not released further details and have not announced any citations or determinations of fault.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are expected to release additional information once crash reconstruction efforts are completed and next of kin procedures are finalized.
