Angela Mitchell Obituary, Indianapolis, IN Stabbing Death – In Loving Memory

The southwest side of Indianapolis is in mourning after Angela Mitchell, 48, died Saturday following a brutal stabbing incident at a Lockburn Street residence. Mitchell had been hospitalized in critical condition for four days after the attack, marking the second death linked to the event.

The original incident occurred on May 12 when Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to a 911 call reporting screams and disturbance at the home. Upon arrival, officers found multiple victims with stab wounds. A man was found deceased at the scene, with injuries appearing self-inflicted, though police have not confirmed his role in the attack.

Mitchell was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, where she underwent surgery but succumbed to her injuries. Two other victims were hospitalized: a man with moderate injuries and a woman, reportedly Mitchell’s younger sister, who has since been released and is recovering at an undisclosed location.

Police recovered a large kitchen knife from the scene, which is being processed for fingerprints and DNA. Investigators have not confirmed relationships among the victims, motive, or whether anyone else was involved. Authorities continue to review phone records, social media activity, and interview family and acquaintances. No suspects are currently being sought.

Angela Mitchell, a lifelong resident of southwest Indianapolis, worked for over a decade as a home health aide, caring for elderly and disabled clients. She is remembered by family and neighbors for her warmth, resilience, and generosity. She leaves behind two adult children and is mourned as a devoted mother, friend, and member of the community.

The investigation remains active as police work to determine the full circumstances of the Lockburn Street attack, which has left a neighborhood and family grappling with tragedy and loss.
