Polk Parkway Accident Today – A Crash in Polk County Left Two People Dead and One Injured

A tragic collision in Polk County early Sunday morning has resulted in two fatalities and left another person seriously hurt. The accident occurred near U.S. Highway 27 and California Boulevard in Davenport, prompting a major emergency response as authorities worked to investigate the circumstances.

Preliminary reports from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office indicate the crash involved a Genesis G70 and a Ford Explorer around 3:50 a.m. The Genesis, traveling southbound, reportedly ran a red light and struck the rear of the stopped Ford Explorer.

The 21-year-old Genesis driver from Summerfield, Florida, died at the scene and was not wearing a seat belt. A 30-year-old female passenger in the Genesis was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries. The Ford Explorer’s 31-year-old male driver sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover.

The accident caused significant traffic delays as investigators from the Traffic Homicide Unit documented the scene, interviewed witnesses, and assessed vehicle damage. Authorities have not confirmed whether speed or impairment played a role, and no criminal charges are expected at this time.

The community has expressed condolences to the families affected, while the crash serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers present on Florida’s roadways, especially during early morning hours.
