The Chillicothe community is mourning the loss of 45-year-old Jolayne C. Blake, who was tragically killed in a pedestrian crash early Saturday morning on U.S. 35 in Concord Township, Ross County. The incident occurred near mile marker 3 and has left family, friends, and neighbors grappling with the sudden and devastating loss.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, their Jackson Communication Center received a report at approximately 8:27 a.m. of an object along the side of the highway. When troopers from the Chillicothe Post arrived, they discovered that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Blake was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was later transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities confirmed that a 2021 Kia K5, driven by 28-year-old Paitaan White of Chillicothe, was traveling northwest on U.S. 35 when it struck Blake, who had been walking in the roadway. The driver was unharmed in the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol closed the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, documenting evidence and reconstructing the events that led to the fatal collision. The roadway was reopened once the on-site investigation was complete.

Officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including all possible contributing factors, as they work to determine what happened. At this time, no further details have been released.
