The Holt community is grieving the sudden and devastating loss of Lavar Ball and Dey Hatin Areal, who were killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on northbound US-127 near I-96.
According to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 3:10 a.m. following reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and crossed over I-96. Investigators reported that the vehicle veered off the highway under circumstances still under investigation, resulting in a violent collision that claimed the lives of Ball and Areal and left the driver, a 28-year-old Lansing man, critically injured.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of their injuries.
