Cole Scholey Obituary, Perry Township, OH Accident Death – In Loving Memory
The Perry Township community is mourning the tragic loss of two individuals, Cole Scholey, 21, of Beach City, and Kelly Kemp, 56, of Massillon, following a devastating head-on collision on U.S. Route 62 Saturday morning. A juvenile passenger in one of the vehicles sustained serious injuries and was transported for emergency treatment.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. near milepost 11. Scholey was driving a 2019 Ford Ranger northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, he crossed left of center and collided head-on with a 2021 Honda Odyssey driven by Kemp. The impact caused catastrophic damage to both vehicles.
Kemp was pronounced dead at the scene, while Scholey was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries. The juvenile passenger in Kemp’s vehicle was seriously injured and taken to Aultman Hospital for urgent care.
Investigators have noted that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and speed is suspected as a contributing factor. The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to examine evidence, including vehicle positions, roadway markings, and witness accounts, to determine the circumstances leading to the collision.
The sudden loss of Cole Scholey and Kelly Kemp has left family, friends, and the Perry Township community grappling with grief. Tributes from loved ones and neighbors describe both as individuals who made meaningful connections in their communities and whose absence will be deeply felt.
Authorities have confirmed that the crash remains under active investigation as troopers work to reconstruct the events that led to this tragic accident.
