A deep and painful sorrow has gripped Duluth following the tragic death of Keyshawn Michael Beckom, 23, who was killed early Saturday morning in a devastating crash in southern St. Louis County. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the fatal accident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on May 16 along Highway 2 near Culver Township, close to milepost 236. Authorities reported that a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling eastbound crossed into the oncoming lane before gradually drifting into the north ditch. Moments later, the vehicle violently struck a power pole, snapping it in half and leaving behind a scene of devastation. The Jeep came to rest facing westbound, and Keyshawn, who was a passenger, was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver, 24-year-old Lee Arthur Green of Duluth, survived and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. Investigators noted that alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor, though road conditions were reportedly dry at the time of the crash.
