SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Authorities confirmed that 28-year-old Dan Canniff, a local motorcyclist and social media content creator known online as 2DownDan, died Friday afternoon following a collision with a sedan in San Diego’s El Cerrito neighborhood. The crash occurred at approximately 12:56 p.m. near the intersection of El Cajon Boulevard and 56th Street.
According to the San Diego Police Department, a 22-year-old woman was driving a 2019 Toyota sedan westbound on El Cajon Boulevard and attempted a left turn onto 56th Street while operating under a green traffic signal. At the same time, Canniff was riding eastbound on his Kawasaki Ninja 500 motorcycle, also with a green light. For reasons still under investigation, the motorcycle collided with the front passenger side of the sedan.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported Canniff to a nearby hospital. Despite lifesaving measures, he succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The sedan driver was also hospitalized for minor injuries and has since been released. Authorities stated that alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the collision.

The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division is conducting a thorough investigation. Officers will examine factors including whether the sedan driver yielded properly, visibility conditions, potential speed of the motorcycle, and any distractions that may have contributed to the crash. Evidence including skid marks, debris patterns, and vehicle data recorders will be analyzed to determine the cause.
