Rogers Park Man Ammar Houssamo, Charged in Fatal Edgewater Shooting

Edgewater, Chicago – A Rogers Park man, Ammar Houssamo, 53, faces first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon charges following an early-morning shooting in Edgewater earlier this week, authorities announced Saturday.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of West Thome Avenue. Houssamo allegedly shot a man who was walking his dog before turning the weapon on himself. The victim was transported to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead.

Houssamo was also taken to the hospital in critical condition and later arrested by Chicago police. Officials confirmed that Houssamo faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and that the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is ongoing.

Police have not released further details regarding a possible motive. Authorities emphasized that the area is now secure and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Residents reported a heavy police presence in the neighborhood following the incident, expressing shock at the early-morning violence in an otherwise quiet area.

Officials are urging anyone with information, including potential witnesses or surveillance footage, to come forward to assist in the investigation. The case remains active as detectives work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
