Hardy Accident Los Angeles, CA – Driver Ejected in Hancock Park Crash
Two people were hospitalized in critical but stable condition early Friday morning following a severe two-vehicle collision at the intersection of South Highland Avenue and 3rd Street in the Hancock Park area of Hancock Park.
According to investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. when a black Honda traveling westbound on 3rd Street allegedly ran a red light and struck a gray Honda traveling southbound on Highland Avenue. The force of the impact caused significant structural damage to both vehicles and knocked out a traffic signal at the intersection.
Officials said the driver of the gray Honda, identified by police as “Hardy,” was violently ejected from the vehicle and thrown into a nearby wall. A female passenger in the same car became trapped inside the wreckage, requiring an extended rescue operation. Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department used hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the “Jaws of Life,” to extricate her after approximately 15 minutes.
Both victims were transported by emergency medical personnel to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where they were listed in critical but stable condition.
The crash also caused significant disruption in the area. 3rd Street between Citrus Avenue and Highland Avenue was closed for several hours as investigators documented the scene and crews cleared debris. Traffic signals at the intersection were damaged in the collision, prompting officials to advise drivers to treat the intersection as a four-way stop until repairs can be completed.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, including speed, signal timing, and other contributing factors. No additional details regarding potential charges or updated victim conditions have been released at this time.
