Ricky Gladden Obituary, Waxhaw, NC Accident Death – In Loving Memory

A tragic accident on Tuesday evening has left the Waxhaw community mourning the loss of Ricky Gladden, who was killed when a vehicle overturned near the intersection of McCain Street and Arbor Drive. The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. and has left family members, neighbors, and longtime residents grappling with shock and sorrow.

According to the Waxhaw Police Department, a westbound vehicle lost control for reasons still under investigation, veered off the roadway, and struck a large tree before overturning. Ricky Gladden, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. No other vehicles were involved. Waxhaw Police Traffic Unit officials indicated that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor, though the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not released the identity of the driver, and no charges have been filed at this time.

The crash occurred in a residential area of Waxhaw, known for its quiet streets and small-town charm. Residents have expressed concern over local streets being used as shortcuts, and neighbors described the incident as a harrowing event. “You hear a car speeding down here maybe once or twice a week,” said Martha Higgins, a 14-year resident of Arbor Drive. “But this time… it was a sickening bang — metal on wood, then glass breaking. It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”

Police have cordoned off the scene for several days as accident reconstruction specialists document the crash. A large tree at the edge of a front yard bears fresh scars from the impact, with neighbors leaving flowers and a small memorial cross in remembrance of Ricky Gladden.
